Chris Henry, you have got to be kidding me

Chris Henry, you have got to be kidding me

Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry -- actually, I don't even have to finish the sentence, do I? You know how it ends. With Henry in handcuffs.

According to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County, Henry was identified by Gregory Meyer, whose hometown was not listed, and an eyewitness. The eyewitness claimed Henry punched Meyer, causing “visible injury.” Henry then threw a beer bottle at Meyer’s car, breaking the rear passenger window, according to the affidavit.

According to WKRC in Cincinnati (and it's a shame that "C" isn't a "P"), Henry claims it's a case of mistaken identity. I'm not saying that I'd ever doubt the story of such an honorable guy, but he's 6'5", rather distinctive looking, and was identified by two people.

There's even a chance he was wearing his own jersey at the time. He's got a history of doing that when he commits crimes. But in his defense, when is Henry ever not committing a crime?

I don't know. I'm withholding judgment until I hear Les Nessman's report on the story.

If any of this is true--and let's be honest, it's not a huge stretch--I can't wait to see the punishment handed down by Roger Goodell. Henry's already served an 8-game suspension for various infractions in the past. This might send Goodell over the edge. I think he might start pushing to get the death penalty in the NFL.

Bengals cut Henry after latest arrest
The Cincinnati Bengals have released wide receiver Chris Henry after his fifth arrest since 2005. The 24-year-old Henry was in Hamilton County Jail pending a court appearance Thursday after being accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle. Police said he surrendered after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging.

Jags' Del Rio signs contract extension
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has signed a contract extension, a reward for winning his first playoff game. Del Rio's length of contract and salary were not disclosed by the team Thursday, but the salary was expected to be a significant jump from the original five-year, $6.5 million contract he signed in 2003. The Jaguars were 11-5 last year, beat Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs and then ended the season with a 31-20 loss at New England.
