Raiders add injured Giants DT Joseph
The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent defensive tackle William Joseph on Friday, adding a former first-round pick whose career has been plagued by injuries. Joseph missed all of last season for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants with a back injury. He was a late scratch for New York's season opener and then placed on injury reserve the following week. Joseph was the 25th overall pick out of Miami in the 2003 draft.
Will Colts match Cincy offer for Utecht?
Ben Utecht, a pass-receiving tight end, signed a multiyear offer sheet with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he's not being fitted with his stripped helmet just yet. There's another step in the process before Utecht would become a Bengal the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Indianapolis gave him a $927,000 one-year qualifying offer, which gives them one week to decide whether to match the Cincinnati offer sheet and retain Utecht's rights. Terms of the offer sheet were not available. Because Utecht was not drafted out of college, the Bengals would not be required to compensate the Colts with a future draft choice. A restricted free agent is a player with three credited NFL seasons whose contract has expired.
"I don't know what they'll do," Utecht said of the Colts. "I'm sure I'll have a conversation with (Colts coach and fellow University of Minnesota alum) Tony Dungy."
